
Every academic year the Career Development Center's Internship Program hosts scholarships and events. The scholarships are designed to recognize and reward past internship participants. The events are designed to expose students to internship opportunities.
Participating in an internship can also qualify you for internship related scholarships. The Career Development Center's Internship Program hosts two scholarships annually. The Internship Essay Contest and the Bernard L. Hyink Scholarship.

The Career Development Center invites you to participate in the Annual Internship Essay Contest. A $300 scholarship will be awarded to one student from each of the 7 colleges (Arts, Business Administration, Education, Engineering, Health & Human Services, Liberal Arts, Natural Sciences & Mathematics) at CSULB and an overall winner will be given an additional scholarship of $200. All finalists will be recognized and receive certificates at the College to Career: Intern Scholarship Networking Reception.
The competition is open to currently enrolled CSULB students who have participated in an internship, practicum, fieldwork, or student teaching assignment during 2009 (Spring, Summer, or Fall semester). The work experience must be a minimum of 120 hours. Previous winners are not eligible.
Submit a typed, double-spaced essay of no more than 750 words about: How your Internship Experience has influenced your career choice. Include the required cover page available at the front desk of the Career Development Center; do not have your name on any pages beyond the cover page. Essays will be judged on writing to topic, narrative, originality, organization and mechanics, and passion.

California Internship & Work Experience Association presents the 2010 Bernard L. Hyink Scholarship.
The California Internship & Work Experience Association (CIWEA) would like to invite you to apply for the Bernard L. Hyink Scholarship. A scholarship in the amount of $1500 will be awarded for first place and a $750 scholarship will be awarded for second place. First place recipients will also be introduced at the Awards Luncheon at the 2010 CIWEA Regional Workshop.
The competition is open to currently enrolled CSULB students who have participated in an internship, practicum, fieldwork, or student teaching assignment during 2009 (Spring, Summer, or Fall semester) that you received academic credit for at CSULB. Previous winners are not eligible.
Students must type a double-spaced, word processed, 12 point font essay of no more than 750 words addressing the following topic:
"How my Internship Experience has influenced my Career Choice"
You must include 2 cover sheets:
Without the appropriate cover sheets, your essay will be disqualified. Essays should reflect college level writing. Your essay will be scored using a 20 point rubric that includes the following: format/neatness (2pts.), paragraph development(2pts.), spelling/grammar(3pts.), writing to topic(4pts.), creativity(4pts.), and career impact(5pts.).
Essays need to be submitted to the Internship Program Office at the Career Development Center (Brotman Hall 250) by 5:00pm Tuesday, December 1, 2009.
Internship events are a great opportunity to network with internship employers and possibly secure yourself an internship.
Each Fall Semester the Internship Program hosts Internship Week, a weeklong event filled with workshops catering to students searching for internships. Employers are invited from various industries to share their internship opportunities. Internship Week Schedule
